This week I want to kick off a new, occasional way of doing things for What We’re Reading. Starting this week (and randomly in the future) I’ll feature articles from industry thought leaders. These are the kinds of people we follow closely, because they’ve got a lot of good things to say.
I’m going to kick it off with some articles by Nicole Leinbach-Reyhle, Forbes contributor and founder of Retail Minded. She’s a recognized retail expert who puts out a lot of pragmatic advice for retailers. She also dives into some of the topics and trends you need to know about. Here are three of her articles we read this week…
Appleization of Retail
This article discusses some of the changes that Apple is implementing in their infamous retail stores. Apple has set the bar pretty high for what a modern brick & mortar retail experience can look like. Now, they’re pushing it even further. Nicole discusses what retailers can learn from Apple, so that they can provide the same quality customer experience that Apple provides.
In this piece, Nicole dives into the business value of real-time APIs. It’s not an article about technology implementation. It’s an article about strategy–about how in an increasingly technology-driven industry, you absolutely must be able to integrate data. I love this article, because it’s exactly our perspective on integration.
Bigcommerce & Alibaba
This Forbes contribution is more a news piece than it is advice. But, it’s important news. Bigcommerce is taking the market (dominated by Shopify and Magento) by storm. Giving their merchants immediate access to the enormous marketplace that is Alibaba may be an important differentiator over the next couple years.
