A common challenge we encounter among multi-channel companies is managing pricing between two systems that help support different channels. Just last week we found another customer with the same issue.
This particular customer is a manufacturer that not only sells their products to large retailers and independent contractors, but they also have opened several retail stores of their own and have a web site, as well. Business is great – but this pesky pricing problem keeps surfacing:
Their ERP solution, Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision), supports multiple levels of pricing for their retail operations, wholesale customers, and contractors, but their POS system only supports three price levels. Their wholesale customers keep asking them when theyre going to be able to buy from the retail stores, in addition to the warehouse where they traditionally pick up their goods. Our customer wanted to enable his customers to do that, but had no way to deal with the different levels of pricing required. He certainly didnt want the store clerks to have to call corporate for customer specific pricing, as that would tie up too many resources and bog down the checkout process.
Integrating NAV and POS systems
Its conversations like these that are the foundation for new features that we develop for nChannel. Our platform not only connects this customers NAV and POS system, but enables our customer to create and manage price lists and make them available at the retail store.
Our customer breathed a sigh of relief when he found out he didnt need to replace the POS system. Using nChannel, not only can he tell his wholesale customers they can now go to the stores to make purchases, but they can also go their website to place orders. When the wholesale customer enters their customer number, they get their appropriate price schedule! His customers can now order online and pick up the order at the store of their choice, allowing them to choose a store that is closest to their customers location. Problem solved, hes happy, his customer is happy, (and were happy too – because we get to solve these kinds of problems for retailers and distributors every day!)
